It's already known that Democrats were in contact with McCain before the vote, so they likely influenced him. Conservative Tribune reported that McCain received a call from former vice president and Delaware senator Joe Biden before the health care vote took place. In addition, McCain took a call from Democrat Joe Lieberman, the Connecticut moderate who stood as Al Gore's running mate in the 2000 presidential election.
