The EU's executive Commission said Friday that contaminated eggs have been found at producers in four countries; Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands. Eggs or egg products from those producers have reached Austria, Britain, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia and Sweden, as well as Switzerland and Hong Kong outside the EU.

The European Commission's food safety chief has called countries to stop "blaming and shaming" each other. Insecticide-tainted eggs from European poultry farms have been found in Hong Kong and Switzerland as well as 15 EU countries, the European Commission has said. The European Commission said all had received eggs contaminated with the pesticide fipronil, adding that a meeting of EU ministers to discuss the scandal had been provisionally scheduled for 26 September.
